Michael Bolton is one of those rare artists in the music business who can still pack performing arts centers around the world after 25 years on the touring circuit. Bolton brings his red-hot “One World, One Love” tour to Reichhold Center for the Arts on Saturday, January 29, 2011, 8 p.m.
In the past six months Bolton has entertained audiences at packed houses in Dublin, Holland, Germany, China, Bali, and Japan, among other countries. He has also sold-out theaters throughout the U.S.
In between concert dates, Bolton hit the dance floor for a stint on the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars,” recorded an upcoming PBS broadcast concert with Seal, and worked on behalf of his Michael Bolton Charities, which strives to end the scourge of violence against women and children in America.
This tour, in particular, is one of his most exciting, Bolton said recently. “I’ve been touring for 25 years. And you know, when you put dates up and especially in an economy where it has been tough for a lot of people, you don’t know where they’re going to choose to spend their money. When you find that people are just grabbing these tickets and looking forward to the show, it automatically excites you for the show.”
Bolton says his goal during each performance is to take audiences on a journey of their lives through his many hits.
“Having a catalog of songs of hits that started in 1987, I feel like my audience wants to hear that music which has been part of the soundtrack of their lives,” Bolton said. “I add some other songs that I think are just masterpieces and nostalgic. So I take them through an entire evening of a wide range of music from pop, R&B, to classical to blues and as many of the greatest hits I could fit in there.”
In recognition of his artistic achievements, Michael has received two Grammys for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance, six American Music Awards, and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As a songwriter, he has earned over 24 BMI & ASCAP Awards, including Songwriter of the Year, 9 Million-Air awards, and the Hitmakers Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His chart topping version of Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) the Dock of the Bay,” was certified double Platinum and shipped 4 million copies worldwide.
To date, Bolton’s soulful voice and poignant lyrics have sold more than 53 million albums and singles worldwide.
Bolton’s true signature success, however, was the six-time platinum album “Soul Provider,” selling more than 12 million copies world-wide, and showcasing several chart-toppers including the #1 hit single “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” which earned Michael his first Grammy. This pivotal album also includes the hit singles “When I’m Back on My Feet Again,” “How Can We Be Lovers,” and “Soul Provider.”
Soon after, Bolton released the #1 album “Time, Love & Tenderness,” which has sold over 16 million copies world-wide, and features his Grammy Award-winning vocal performance of the #1 blockbuster hit “When A Man Loves a Woman.” This album also produced the hit singles: “Love Is a Wonderful Thing,” “Time, Love and Tenderness” and “Missing You Now.”
His latest CD, “One World, One Love,” is his 18th studio album. The first single is a passionate ballad, “Murder My Heart,” co-written and performed with Lady Gaga. Other collaborators include R&B star Ne-Yo, Terrence Trent D’Arby and Jamaican sensation Tami Chynn.
Internationally renowned, Michael has recorded and performed with musical icons such as Luciano Pavarotti on stage in a highly praised rendition of “Vesti La Giubba,” and pays homage to the Italian tenor when performing the aria “Nessun Dorma” at each of his concerts while on tour. Recently, Michael performed duets with both Seal and Lara Fabian to standing ovations for a PBS special airing in March of 2011.
Michael has penned #1 hit singles for countless musicians: Laura Branigan (“How Am I Supposed to Live Without You”), KISS (“Forever”), Barbra Streisand (“We’re Not Making Love Anymore”), Cher (“I Found Someone”), and Kenny G (“By the Time this Night is Over’).
For his dedication to social activism, Michael has been honored with several Humanitarian awards – including the Martin Luther King Award granted by the Congress of Racial Equality (C.O.R.E.), and the Lewis Hine Award from The National Child Labor Committee.
The Michael Bolton concert is sponsored by International Capital & Management Company, Virgin Islands Lottery, First Bank, First Insurance, VI Waste Management Authority, Virgin Islands Council on the Arts, Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Resort, Tropical Shipping, and Innovative Communication Corporation.
