GRAMPS MORGAN BRINGS SOLO ACT TO THE REICHHOLD CENTER

    Virgin Islands reggae fans know Roy “Gramps” Morgan as the standout voice of the internationally renowned reggae band with his siblings, Morgan Heritage. Now, Morgan brings his solo act to the Reichhold Center for the Arts when he opens for the Jimmy Cliff reggae show on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 8 p.m.

   Gramps Morgan’s debut CD Two Sides of My Heart Vol. 1 was released in September 2009.  The CD immediately soared to the top of music charts in Jamaica, Europe and the U. S.

    Two Sides Of My Heart Vol. 1 garnered Gramps numerous awards for the 2010 International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) in Toronto. He won, “Best Song” for his debut single (“Wash The Tears”),  “Best Crossover Song” (reggae remix of  “Threapy” featuring India Arie) and “Best New Entertainer.”  Moreover, the album received magnificent reviews on websites from loyal listeners and fans.

    Two Sides of My Heart Vol.1 features the mega-hit song, “Wash The Tears.”  Other standout songs on the album include, “Power Of Prayer,” a duet with Buju Banton,  “One In A Million,”  “Come Back To Bed,” and “Therapy,” sung with India Arie.

    “I want to heal people through music, at the same time, I just want to give people new music and let people know that everything is going to be alright. I want to reason with the fans and get personal with them ‘cause everyone has problems. My music is about healing, heart to heart,” says Morgan, of his album.

    On tour, Morgan also opened for Buju Banton on his Rasta Got Soul tour; he also toured with India Arie and John Legend.

    Gramps Morgan was born in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up playing football in Springfield, Massachusetts with his parents and other siblings. Gramps is also the son of reggae legend Denroy Morgan.  His dad prophesized that one day, each of them (his children) would tread on their own journey to achieve solo stardom.
